The City of Toronto expanded its Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program on May 1, 2026. Eligible homeowners can now claim up to $6,650 per property. That’s roughly double the old cap. The City covers up to 80% of the invoiced cost for approved work. That includes backwater valves, sump pumps with alarms and battery backup, and capping a storm sewer or weeping tile connection.
There’s also a new Home Plumbing Assessment subsidy worth up to $500. It pays a licensed plumber to find the issues feeding your flood risk. Expanded amounts apply to eligible work completed on or after November 12, 2025.
