  • Health Protection – Lead can leach into your drinking water.

  • Performance – Upsizing improves pressure for multiple fixtures at once.

  • City Compliance – Toronto encourages replacement through rebate programs.

  • Property Value – Modernized plumbing is a selling point for buyers.

Water Line Replacement Methods

Trenchless Water Service Installation

We use a pneumatic piercing tool (“torpedo”) to install new water service lines without digging long trenches. This method is ideal when you want minimal disturbance to driveways, lawns, and landscaping. The new copper or HDPE line is installed quickly and meets all City of Toronto standards

Advantages:

  • No major excavation required

  • Shorter project time

  • Less restoration cost

Traditional Excavation Method

For certain installations or when trenchless isn’t suitable, we use the open-trench method to replace your water line. The damaged pipe is removed, and a new copper or HDPE pipe is laid in its place. We use code-approved fittings and perform pressure testing before backfilling.

Advantages:

  • Suitable for all pipe conditions

  • Complete pipe replacement from curb stop to meter

  • Can be paired with other underground work

  • City of Toronto Approved – Meets all codes for residential upgrades.

  • Rebate Eligibility – Qualifies for lead replacement incentives where applicable.

Lead Pipe Replacement in Toronto – Why Choose Copper

In Toronto homes built before the mid-1950s, water service lines were often made of lead — a material now known to pose serious health risks. Lead can leach into drinking water, especially as pipes corrode over time.

How to Tell the Difference:

  • Lead Pipe: Dull grey colour; scratching it reveals a shiny silver surface.

  • Copper Pipe: Bronze or dark orange colour; more durable and naturally resistant to corrosion.

Why Upgrade to Copper or HDPE:

Our Red Seal–certified plumbers can inspect your service line, confirm its material, and replace it with ¾″ or 1″ copper or HDPE piping using trenchless or traditional methods.

Health Risks of Lead Water Pipes – Why Toronto Homeowners Should Upgrade

For decades, lead was used in water service supply lines, drainage pipes, and plumbing connections. In Toronto homes built before the late 1950s, lead water pipes may still be in use — even if the water leaving the treatment plant is lead-free. As water travels through old lead or galvanized lines, it can pick up dangerous traces of lead, which is harmful to your family’s health.

You can take some precautions:

While these measures can reduce lead exposure, the only permanent solution is to replace lead or galvanized water service lines with ¾″ or 1″ copper or HDPE piping. At Anta Plumbing, our City of Toronto–licensed, Red Seal–certified plumbers can upgrade your line using trenchless or traditional methods — boosting water pressure and delivering safer, cleaner water to your home.

Boost Low Water Pressure with a Water Service Upgrade in Toronto

Rusted Water Pipe
Damaged and Rusted Pipe

Replace Rusted, Sedimented Water Pipes

If your showers slow to a trickle when someone runs the dishwasher, the problem may not be your municipal water pressure — it could be your water service line. Two common culprits are:

  1. Undersized Pipes – Many older Toronto homes still have ½″ main water lines, which can’t deliver enough volume for modern needs.

  2. Corrosion & Sediment Buildup – Rust, mineral deposits, and sediment inside old pipes restrict water flow.

How Anta Plumbing Solves the Problem:

  • We replace your old lead, galvanized, or corroded water service line with a ¾″ or 1″ copper or HDPE pipe, instantly increasing flow capacity.

  • Our trenchless “torpedo” installation requires only a small access hole at the property line, avoiding the need to dig up your driveway, lawn, or sidewalk.

  • Installation is City of Toronto–approved and performed by Red Seal–certified, WSIB-insured plumbers

Benefits of Upgrading:

  • Run multiple fixtures at full flow

  • Enjoy cleaner, lead-free drinking water

  • Avoid future leaks and costly emergency repairs

Water-saving devices

Other Tips for Low Pressure

If your water pressure is low, check to see if aerator screens or water-saving devices are clogged. Remove the heads from the affected faucets and test the water flow. If that solves the problem, you can just replace the clogged parts.
Sediment can also build up in your water heater, reducing the flow of water over time, especially in areas with hard water. Drain your water heater every few months to remove sediment buildup.
Another culprit in low water pressure is supply lines that are too small. In this case, you should increase their size. If your line is 1/2 inch, you can upgrade to 3/4 inch or even 1 inch. Anta Plumbing can quickly and conveniently install new, bigger pipes using state-of-the-art trenchless technology that requires no digging and leaves no mess.

Trenchless Technology for Water Pipe Installation

Trenchless rehabilitation refers to some of ANTA Plumbing’s modern construction methods, including thermoformed pipe, pipe bursting and mechanical spot repair, or replacement of existing buried pipes and structures with minimal (if any) excavation.

Sliplining and thermoformed pipe lining involve pulling a new liner through an existing pipe, then applying heat and/or pressure to force the liner to expand to fill the pipe. Pipe bursting fractures a pipe from the inside and forces the fragments outward while a new pipe is drawn in to replace the old, weathered or broken pipe.
The other methods are primarily for fixing spot leaks. Trenchless rehabilitation methods are generally more cost-effective than traditional excavation and replacement methods.
