Basement flooding protection Subsidy program in Toronto
The City of Toronto is actively enhancing its extensive network of underground pipes, sewers, and catchbasins. However, these improvements alone are not sufficient to fully safeguard homes against basement flooding, especially as climate change increases the frequency of severe storms.
Homeowners are encouraged to proactively reduce their risk of basement flooding. In support of this, the City offers the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program. Under this program, owners of single-family, duplex, or triplex residential homes can access a financial subsidy of up to $3,200 per property. This subsidy can be used towards the installation of flood protection measures such as back-water valves, sump pumps, and the severance and capping of the home’s storm sewer connection, among other interventions. These measures are crucial in enhancing home safety and resilience against flooding events.
