Why Hydro Jetting is the Best Way to Clean Blocked Drains

When your sewer becomes clogged, there are several methods to try in order to dislodge the blockage. Some people prefer using chemicals, as it is a simpler way to dissolve blockages, but they don't realize that chemicals cause corrosion in your pipes. You can also try snaking the drain, or applying pressure. Here at Anta Plumbing, we prefer the pressure method, or hydro jetting, as we call it.

How Hydro Jetting Works

With hydro jetting, we introduce a high-pressure water stream into the pipe or sewer line. Pressured at an average of 3,000-8,000 psi, your piping system and the severity of the blockage will determine the output recommended. Large municipal sewer systems with a large diameter will determine a stronger water yet to successfully remove the blockage. A clog in a simple residential kitchen sink, on the other hand, will only need a low pressure jet.

Why Toronto Plumbers Prefer Hydro Jetting

Traditional unclogging methods are often effective at removing a standard clog, but it cannot match the efficiency of hydro jetting. The reason for this is that hydro jetting does more than just removing a clog - it actually cleans the insides of the pipe completely, scrubbing clean the accumulation inside the pipe walls. By clearing away any accumulated debris and congealed fats, oils and grease, it will give your pipes a more steady and continuous flow and that will help prevent future build up.

Why Residents Opt for Hydro Jetting

Hydro jetting or drain snaking - which method to choose? When looking at our call out logs, it is clear that our clients prefer hydro jetting. Let's look at their reasons:

1. Cost Saving

While hydro jetting is not the cheapest method, it saves money in the long run. Traditional snaking and rooting techniques are cheaper, but they take much longer, thus fetching more in hourly plumbing charges, for a problem that may well recur in a few weeks or months. Hydro jetting, on the other hand, take quick to complete, and since it scrubs away dirt and debris from the entire inside of the pipes, it reduces the likelihood of imminent clogs in the near future.

2. Versatile Solution

Drain snaking is not effective on clogs caused by build up from fats, oils and grease, roots in drains and other clogs that occurred over time. It's only really effective on clean drains that clogged as the result of a once-off blockage. Hydro jetting, on the other hand, is an effective solution for a variety of clogs.

3. More Sanitary Solution

Hydro jetting is clearly more sanitary than drain snaking, since the clog is blasted away, thus reducing the health risk to both plumbers, residents and everyone within proximity of the clog.

4. Environmental Friendliness

Chemicals are bad for the environment, whereas hydro jetting uses only plain water. While saving water is important, it is important to remember that the water is pressurized to make every drop count. Hydro jetting is the perfect solution for people who live near rivers, ponds or lakes.

When you book a hydro jetting procedure through Anta Plumbing, your plumber will use a high-tech drain inspection camera to ascertain the cause of the clog, and their progress in removing it.
